Riddles in the Dark - Gollum's blog!

I don't need Gollum invading my blog anymore, so he and I worked together to create him one of his own! He writes and I moderate, just to make sure things stay friendly. ;) Please check out riddlesinthedarkblog.blogspot.com!

A-M Randomness

I think I forgot how to blog...I've been busy for a while and now I'm working on a couple blogging-related things but it's been so long since I posted so just wanted to do something. Saw a couple bloggers do something similar so here I go with little topics for each letter...

A. Arwen-Undomiel.com's humor section - all the pictures and things there are great and some of my old favorites.

B. Blogging - I'm working on one thing for this blog (plus thinking about what I'm even going to be posting about ever) and some other stuff which I'll mention when it's done (get excited!).

C. Commenting - blogger friends, I am really really sorry I haven't been commenting. Lots of busy and tired days. I'll try to get better at it.

D. Doctor Who - I started season 7 with Asylum of the Daleks today which was pretty good (I can tell there's foreshadowing for later in the season which is cool). For those anxiously awaiting the 50th anniversary special on November 23, the awesome people from the Doctor Who tumblr started isitthedoctorwho50thanniversaryyet.com to help us keep track of the days.

E. "Everything's under control, we're taking over the ship" - usually when we play the alphabet game I think of this line from Pirates of the Caribbean. Still love those movies.

F. Fortnight for Freedom - for the two weeks leading up to the fourth of July, a lot of people/churches are praying especially for religions liberty in the United States (see my old post and this awesome one from the USCCB for more of an explanation). We've been doing evening prayer at church on weekdays, with my friends and I singing.

G. Gollum - My preciousss, gollum gollum. We have been busy precious, yes, very busy...

H. Hiddleston - Tom Hiddleston is just a great guy.

I. Ice cream - is good.

J. June - is almost over already?? We're about halfway through the year now...I'm going to run out of summer really fast. After finishing a summer class, I've been catching up on things and music and sleep for the past few days but now hopefully I'll get to more of the things I planned.

K. Keptin Kirk - all the gifs I've seen of Chekhov (and his Russian accent) from Star Trek: Into Darkness have really made me want to see the movie (and I may or may not be dying to see Benedict Cumberbatch) so if I don't catch it in the theaters I'll definitely see the DVD. Totally not abandoning Star Wars though! We can all be friends.

L. Lord of the Rings - this post, especially the caption, made me laugh really hard.

M. Messy Mondays - if you haven't checked out Blimey Cow on YouTube, I would highly recommend it. They have tons of funny, thought provoking, and encouraging videos that are full of awesome. One of my recent favorites was 7 Lies You Believe About Yourself, which I found super encouraging.

Just doing the first half of the alphabet for now so 1. I can get something out that doesn't take too long, and 2. I have another easy thing to post about later. Thanks for reading and sorry for my inactivity in the blogosphere!

The 11 Tag

*Different parts were written at different times, so when I say today, now, or the last time, or whatever, it may or may not be accurate. Think wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff*

RULES

1) Thank the person who nominated you.
2) Post 11 facts about yourself.
3) Answer the 11 questions the person who nominated you asked.
4) Ask the people you tag to answer 11 questions.
5) Nominate 11 bloggers.

Thank you ChelseaAlyianna, and Voronda for tagging me!

11 facts about me

1. Watched The Great Mouse Detective today with my mom and brother - a lot of fun, especially after becoming familiar with Sherlock Holmes thanks to BBC's Sherlock.

2. On Animal Crossing I like it when we catch loaches because it says "don't encroach on my loach" and I think it's funny.

3. I like it when things are neat but my room is often not in that state (though it's actually ok now as I've had time to clean it)

4. I enjoy collecting gifs and using them in emails and things when I can.

5. I've been scared away from writing fan fiction for a while for fear of doing badly, but doing the thing where you put your iPod on shuffle and write a drabble for each song got me back into it. I'm sure they aren't great and I haven't looked over them yet, but it's been fun anyway.

6. I think Tom Hiddleston is awesome and sweet and gentlemanly and it would be cool to meet him.

7. A few nights this week it's been nice to read fanfiction on my iPod to chill before bed. I go through phases with fanfiction, like I'll only read one or two series at a time and barely look at any others. Like it was Jedi Apprentice for a while, then Professor Layton and Ace Attorney (still reading those sometimes), and now it's Doctor Who. Dunno, I'm weird.

8. Rhythm Thief (3DS game) music sounds awesome in car speakers.

9. Today I came across a very cool thing on YouTube: I Am The Doctor/Sherlock's Theme - Piano Mashup. And the best part is it includes piano sheet music. Win! Fun to play something to work on playing better.

10. If I don't get married or become a nun or something, I think I'd like to get a turtle. People talk about being an old cat lady, but I'm allergic to cats. So I'll be an old turtle lady. Or I wonder if I'm allergic to hedgehogs...

11. I currently really like the song ABC Cafe/Red and Black from Les Miserables.

Chelsea's questions:

1) If you woke up to find yourself stranded on an island, what would you do?
Try to see if it's a dream. Then try to figure out what's going on. Then try to make it in to something like Gilligan's Island.

2) How many languages do you speak?
I am fluent in over six million forms of communication and can readily - ok, one. English.

3) Where is your favourite place to shop for clothes?
Shopping for clothes is hard...so many things don't fit and because of my size end up being immodest...Walmart is ok, and I recently discovered how great Goodwill is.

4) Do you still watch Disney?
Yes! I've never actually watched Disney movies a whole bunch, but I certainly haven't stopped, and I love the music.

5) Which do you prefer of the following: Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest?
Facebook since I've been able to get to know people a lot on there, but Pinterest is cool because of all the crafts. I don't have a twitter account but that doesn't stop me from stalking people on there. ;)

6) What's your favourite season?
It was fall but now may be moving toward summer...maybe something in between.

7) Have you ever been in a play?
Yes! Three musicals, a straight play, and some fun plays I made with a friend.

8) If you were to be granted 3 wishes, what would you choose?
I probably wouldn't wish for anything unless it was really small - magic comes with a price and all... Maybe pizza?

9) Would you rather live in Narnia, Middle Earth, or Wonderland?
Middle-Earth! Probably the Shire. Or Rivendell. Or Rohan.

10) Are you hungry right now?
Not currently.

11) Would you rather be attacked by a flaming flamingo, or dragon llama?
A dragon llama - that sounds quite interesting. And the fire on the flamingo would be difficult to avoid. If I could just defeat it with a hose, however, that might be a better choice.

Alyianna's questions:

1) What would you say/do/feel if you heard that I was deciding not to blog anymore?
Would be surprised and sad. So don't. ;)

2) What is your dream house like?
Two little things come to mind...I saw a kitchen once with yellow walls and lace curtains and thought that was really pretty so I'd like that, then it would be so cool to build a TARDIS in front of a door so there's a room behind it and it's bigger on the inside.

3) What was one of your favourite movies as a child?
Hmm...Maybe the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Mostly watched shows when I was little and can't think of many movies.

4) If you could make a gingerbread house for any type of fandom that you wished, what would you create?
A gingerbread hobbit hole could be cute!

5) What would your dream world be like? (Yes, you can borrow things from places like Narnia, Wonderland, Middle Earth, etc. etc. etc.)
I don't know...that's pretty big. Narnia and Middle-Earth are great, but there are nice things on this world too.

6) Which of these people do you think would be the hardest foe to conquer and why? The Wicked Witch of the West, the Queen of Hearts, or the Giant in Puss and Boots?
I don't have any experience with Puss in Boots, but I'd go with him or the Queen of Hearts. I like my head right where it is, thank you.

7) I'm going to have you listen to two songs. Who sings "Bring Him Home" better - Hugh Jackman or Susan Boyle?
Susan Boyle sounds beautiful but I also love the context of the story in which Hugh Jackman does it. Might go with Susan Boyle.

8) What are you going to do your mother for Mother's Day? (You can skip this question if you know your mother reads your blog. :D)
Skipping~

9) What movie are you looking forward to most this year?
THE HOBBIT THE HOBBIT THE HOBBIT THE HOBBIT (To Isengard! To Isengard!). Very excited about that, as I'm sure is now obvious. Also excited about Thor 2.

10) What's your favourite music album at the moment?
I really like Les Mis and then a make-shift album of like two songs from Random Encounters (video game musicals! And other fun stuff)

11) What qualities does your dream husband have. ;)
Again, two little not-necessary-but-would-be-really-cool things. One, he sings and does duets with me. The other is he likes cosplaying, especially as the Tenth Doctor.

Like this. Because this is just so cute. (found on tumblr)
Voronda's Questions:

1. Language/s You would like to learn?
I guess I'd like to be better at Spanish, but I've already taken three classes and lost most knowledge, so don't think that's happening...would still be cool to learn Elvish.

2. Would you rather live on Hoth or Tatooine? For those who don't know Star Wars: North Pole or Sahara Desert?
I think Tatooine because it's populated, but I don't know too much about Hoth.

3. Something that made your day today?
I got excited to see David Tennant was nominated for a daytime Emmy for his work in The Clone Wars! And a couple funny things on Tumblr, and Doctor Who especially Rory. That's all I can think of from today.

4. If you weren't your currant nationality, and you had the choice to pick you nationality what would you choose or would you not change?
I wouldn't change, but maybe I'd go for Canada or New Zealand.

5. Do you have pierced ears of body part?
I don't...I think about getting my ears pierced, but I'm chicken and a little weirded out by the idea of having holes put in my body. On the other hand, earrings might help me look older, so I'm always debating.

6. Coke or Pepsi or Root Beer?
Actually don't drink soda.

7. What was your last dream about? All the itty-bitty details
I was at a con I think then was walking around the parking lot and it was dark. There was something with a family that I can't remember. I called my dad and he (and the rest of my family?) was going to come get me, but were like 25 minutes away or something. Then at one point I was talking to this guy I know about Doctor Who. Something like that.

8. So you get to meet your favorite band/singer and spend a week with them. Who are they and what do you do when you first meet them and what do you do during the week?
Oh dear um...the music I listen to is usually from musicals, video games, or video game based from the internet...guess I can't really answer this too well.

9. Look out your window. What do you see?
If I looked out the kitchen window right now (shade is closed, too hard to look out when it's night anyway), I'd see darkness, a few stray raindrops, and the street we're on.

10. Which do you prefer to watch Sunset/Sunrise or Stars/Northern Lights?
Stars! Probably northern lights as well, if I ever get to see them.

11. Your being cast as your favorite character from a book/movie/show/game etc., in the movie of said form of entertainment. Who are you?
The first female incarnation of the Doctor!

I'm not going to nominate anyone specifically because I don't know who's been tagged, who's currently blogging, and who wants to do this, BUT if any followers would like to here are questions for you:

1. Do you like birds or fish best?
2. Do you prefer movies or tv shows?
3. What is a favorite summer memory?
4. What can you hear right now?
5. What is you preferred method of long-distance communication (phone, texting, skype, chat, etc)?
6. What is your favorite outfit?
7. Favorite mythical creature?
8. What is the last book you read?
9. What is your favorite way to exercise?
10. What is your favorite type of weather?
11. Would you rather life in a forest, in the mountains, or by the ocean?

And there we have it! Have a great weekend everyone!

Chatting + Middle-Earth Favorites

Hello! Yes, I'm actually posting twice in one month. Meant to do this closer to April 1st, but yes, Gollum's fun the other day was for April Fool's and he does not have permanent control over my blog (though maybe he really would be a better/more consistant blogger...would anyone read a similar posting schedule from him if he had his own blog?). I'm on a library computer now but sometime at home I'll add a screen shot of Gollum's takeover to his post. Thanks for all the views and comments on that - that was a lot of fun to do. And you all, thanks for following and reading even though my blog is so quiet all the time. In total pageviews, I've made it to over nine thousaaaaaand (always wanted to say that)! So thanks. :)

Now here's a Middle-Earthen Favorites tag from Ashley Tara of A Dreamer's Galaxy!

(Apologies for the possibly weird and obscure responses in some cases)

Favorite book: Probably Fellowship of the Ring, but Return of the King is a close second
Favorite movie (LOTR or The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey): FotR!
Favorite Hobbit character: Bilbo
Next 3 favorite Hobbit characters: Gandalf and...wasn't big on the dwarves in the book and am still getting used to maybe liking them in the movie so can't really think of anyone else except Saruman and Lindir because he was Figwit in LotR and shares a name with an elf from the FotR book.
Favorite LOTR character: Sam
Next 5 favorite LOTR characters: Aragorn, Frodo, Faramir, Legolas, Gandalf (these change all the time)
Favorite race (Elf, Dwarf, Hobbit, Man, etc.): Hobbit!
Favorite couple: Sam and Rosie, but also love Faramir and Eowyn
Favorite member of the Fellowship of the Ring: Sam
Favorite member of the Company of Thorin Oakenshield: Bilbo
Favorite place in Middle-Earth: The Shire, but I could go on about how much I like others too (this tag is reminding me just how much I've loved LotR!)
Favorite battle: Helm's Deep I think, mostly because of Legolas and Gimli
Favorite weapon: Maybe the Legolas' bow of the Galadhrim? Or Andruil? Ooh, does the phial of Galadriel count?
Favorite creature: Does Gollum count? Oh oh! The fox in the FotR book.
Favorite quote: One I always think of is "Long has my father, the steward of Gondor..." from FotR, or basically the entirety of the Council of Elrond. From the movie. The book scene is pretty good too though.
Favorite song: (end credits/in movie): Hmm, I'm going to go with That's What Bilbo Baggins Hates. Also liked the Lament for Gandalf after I got sheet music for it.
Favorite theme (movie score): Nooooo everything. Ok probably Breaking of the Fellowship, but The Ring Goes South, King of the Golden Hall, and so many others are good...

Thanks for the tag Ashley Tara!

Guess that's all for now. Have a great week everyone, and may the Lord be with you!

Shine On Award

The Shine On Award Rules:

1. Link back to the blogger who nominated you.
2. Post the badge on your blog. It’s pretty. Do it.
3. Answer the questions posed to you. Regardless of how out-of-left-field they may be.
4. Nominate five bloggers who shine a little light in your day and be sure to notify them.
5. Issue some questions you’d like them to answer.

1. Thank you Shena, AlyiannaEdessa and Misty!!! (oh my, I'll be answering questions for a while!)

2. Done! Very pretty.

4. No wait a minute...3. Questions

Shena's:

- If I was going to co-star with your favorite actor, what would you want our character's connection to be(as in family, friends, etc,)?
Not sure if I have one favorite actor, but they're mostly adults so maybe their daughter.

- If you could travel with any of the Doctors, which one would you choose?
10, subject to change once I see 11, but likely 10. He's been giving me a lot of feels lately. But some things are worth getting your broken heart for. :')

- Would you rather live in a science fiction world or a fantasy world?
Probably fantasy world, because Middle-Earth, but I'd consider sci-fi too.

- If you could be an Avenger, which would you choose to be?
Spiderman - I work alone. Ok kidding, maybe Captain America (good guy and from the 40s!).

- Who are your top 10 Jedi characters?
Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Anakin, Luke, Ahsoka, ummm...Yoda, Bant, Garen, Siri, Anakin Solo?

- What are some stories you wish you could have made up?
Once Upon a Time - sounds like the kind of thing I might think of, except more brilliant.

- If you were going to be in a film, what kind of weapon would you want your character to have?
A lightsaber would be awesome. But it would be cool to out think enemies too.

- Of your favorite fictional characters, who would you want for your best friend(if you want, you can pick one from each of your fandoms)?
Basically my favorite character from each fandom...Sam from LotR would make a great friend.

- What are your top two fandoms and why are they your favorite?
LotR and Star Wars - LotR is something I can always come back to and has an amazing world that feels like a home away from home, and Star Wars has an awesome fanbase and a huge universe.

Alyianna's:

1. Who are your five favourite authors and why?
J.R.R. Tolkien because he has made my life better in many ways through LotR. Jude Watson because she really pulled me into Star Wars, the Jedi, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, and somewhat influenced my writing style. Amy Welborn, who wrote some great books for Catholic teens. Can I say St. John? He wrote a pretty great gospel. And Christian M. Frank (pen name for multiple people) for writing the John Paul II High series and being awesome guys. I'm probably missing a bunch of authors...

2. If you had one day left to live, what would you do?
Go to Mass and receive the sacraments would be the most important thing. I guess spend the rest of the day with family/friends? Maybe read/watch LotR one more time.

3. What are your top twenty favourite foods?
20?! Pasta, pizza, hamburgers...make that several variations of pasta and we'll get to 20 eventually.

4. Which of these would you rather do?
- save the world with Percy Jackson
- spend a day riding horses and shooting targets with Merida (that red-headed princess in Brave)
- travel Middle Earth with Gandalf (you're not going to spend much time in any place, though)
Travel Middle-Earth with Gandalf. Though hanging out in Scotland would not be objectionable to me at all.

5. Which of these would you rather do?
- work in the house with Cinderella but get to go the ball with her and end up marrying Cinderella's prince's brother
- time travel with the Doctor (I haven't watched that show...yet.)
- spend a day at home alone getting to do whatever you want to do
They all sound nice...I've had time alone before and while another day would be ok, I'll say no to that (plus I was reminded earlier how when I'm alone there are all these strange sounds...). A good marriage could be nice...but right now I want to travel with the doctor. My poor lonely doctor!

Edessa's:

1.  What is your least favorite movie/TV show ever?
Boohbah. Never saw it but it looked so weird. Weirder than Teletubbies, which I kind of liked.

2.  Dark, Milk, or White chocolate?
Milk
3.  What do you think of Valentine's Day?
I used to like it a lot when I was little, but now being older it's more focused on relationships it seems, so, I don't know, maybe I'll get into it again when/if I have someone? I'm ok with it though.
4.  If you were stuck on a desert island in the middle of nowhere, would you rather be stuck with Jar Jar Binks or a hungry Ewok?
Jar Jar...I think. I do like him, but it would be hard to work on getting us rescued if he was scared and crazy.
5.  What was the last book you read?  Did you like it?
Not sure...my literature book, sure, but maybe Ace Attorney: Investigations manga. I have enjoyed both. Except a few lit stories...
6.  What has God been teaching you this year (so far)?
Ooh, you have good questions. Um, this year...a couple things I can think of - one is a continuing theme of trust, where I'm really worried about something and God brings me through it. Then just how great and important it is to try to be a good person. But God help me!

Misty's:

1: What is your favorite anime?
Fruits Basket! Of course, I've only ever seen that, Tari Tari, and a bit of Naruto, but I loved it!

2: Do you like to draw at all?
Yes...it comes and goes...I'm not all that good but it's fun sometimes. I love drawing Professor Layton characters.

3: Can you write fanfiction? Or have you read a really good one? If so, what is the title and fandom?
Sort of...I can write fanfiction but write it well? Ehh...maybe once in a great while. YES read some really good ones. I mostly read fan fiction for Professor Layton and Ace Attorney, and my favorites are Knights and Knaves and Atroquinine Merlot, respectively.

4: Do you know what show the character in the picture above is from?
If I were to guess I'd say it's Sailor Moon because of the hair, but I don't know for sure.

5: Favorite song?
At the moment...Doctor Who the Musical (if you're a fan WATCH THIS)

6: Out of the classics of our generation, what is your favorite?
Not sure...I'd consider Harry Potter in that category but I haven't read it yet...LotR? The movies at least. Hopefully they last a long time.

7: What are your favorite blogs?
My friend's blogs. And The Arglefumph Blog. And probably a bunch more I'm not thinking of.

8: What is your favorite genre?
Maybe mystery.

9: Do you like playing video games?
YES. PL and AA which, sorry readers who have no interest in them, I am still not over those series. And Mario! Mario Kart 64, Super Mario 64, Wii Sports and similar games...Animal Crossing, Rhythm Thief, Lego Star Wars, oh yes many games...

10: What are your favorite pairings?
Layton/Claire (PL), Gumshoe/Maggey, and maybe Phoenix/Maya (AA), Faramir/Eowyn and Sam/Rosie (LotR). I'm good with most canon pairings out there.

11: Out of all your shows, what are your favorite characters?
Cutting out The Clone Wars because those are just my favorite SW characters, The Doctor, Mary Margret and many others from Once Upon a Time, and...I guess right now really the Doctor.

12: Do/have you have/had a fictional crush? >:D
Never. *lie detector goes off* Ok fine yes. Some when I was younger, then Obi-Wan, and Miles Edgeworth (AA again). There. But not really any at the moment!

There, done!

4. I nominate...um...who hasn't gotten this yet? Asala who has an awesome, fairly active blog and I don't think I saw her on anyone's list...Hey if you're still with me while my blogging is in and out and haven't gotten it, consider yourself nominated!

And 5, very important 5. Questions for you to answer!

1. What are your favorite boy and girl names?
2. What was your favorite book or TV show when you were little?
3. How do you like to relax?
4. Do you prefer straight plays or musicals?
5. Would you rather travel forward in time or backward?
6. Do you have a favorite quote or motto?

Thanks for reading if you made it down here! Have a great weekend!

Happy New Year!

Stephen Hayford

2012 is over already? A while ago when anticipating the release of The Hobbit the year seemed so far away and now it's done and we're all still alive - no apocalypse yet!

I'm going to mirror my post from last year and go through a few good things from this year...

Early in the year I went on a young women's retreat - it was silent (we didn't talk much but listened a lot) which was awesome because it was a lot easier to focus on talking to Jesus, and also great because I didn't have to awkwardly try to socialize! Ok, mostly the first reason, but it was the best retreat I've been on and I'm so thankful for it.

I did another musical this spring/summer and it was, well, pretty much the best show I've done too. Since it was my fourth show with this group I felt more comfortable than I had before and that was so nice. And the musical itself was a ton of fun too. Though I still had some challenges in it, I totally loved it.

Got my learner's permit in May and drove as much as I could to get my license in August! Thank you Mom and Dad for helping me!

Star Wars Celebration VI, which I already talked about in another post so I won't go on and on about how great the experience was again.

This fall I started college! And so far I've survived!

What really helped me survive was joining a small church choir that I absolutely love! We have a really nice group and the music is really enjoyable.

And as I mentioned at the beginning, we finally got to see The Hobbit! I would say it's pretty worth the wait.

Oh, other fandomy things - I finished all the Ace Attorney games (and sealed my obsession with the series), got through all of Once Upon a Time and Fruits Basket (loved both) and started Doctor Who (I currently have one episode left of season 1).

I said this last year, but connecting with friends and family meant a lot to me this year - meeting new friends and strengthening old friendships. I love you guys (that includes you, followers)!

I had two lists last year, things I planned (did them all) and some things I was hoping to do. Let's see how I did on the second list...

Make a fanfiction.net account and write more. (Technically it's not midnight yet so I could make an account real quick but that sounds like cheating. So no, I didn't do that, and didn't write too much either - writing seemed particularly difficult this year, though I do have some blog posts I'm proud of.)

Do Script Frenzy in April. (Yep! Did an Ace Attorney fanfiction script which I think was pretty bad, but it was still fun and I got to the 100 pages. Unfortunately, the program ended this year so if I do it again it will be unofficial.)

Get better at music, writing, and my recent interest of drawing. (Definitely better at music, a little change at writing maybe, and drawing...I'm not really sure because I'll get lucky and draw something good once in a while, but then aren't so good the rest of the time so it's hard to tell)

Make a Jedi costume for Celebration VI. (Yes! Mostly...I still don't have a belt or boots and I recently discovered my tunic has a hole in it after washing it, so it needs work all around.)

Read more...and not just fanfiction. (I'm afraid I didn't read much of anything this year. There was the Fruits Basket manga and a few other things scattered through the year.)

Don't have many plans for next year besides school, so skipping that and on to things I hope to do this year and resolution type things:

Watch The Avengers (maybe even tomorrow), Doctor Who, Sherlock, more Once Upon a Time, Star Wars 3D movies, and The Hobbit part 2!

Costuming - fixing my Jedi costume, and I'd love to do an Ace Attorney cosplay (specifically Maya Fey who I think wouldn't be too hard), and maybe LotR-ish cloaks.

Write - blog posts, stories/fan fics, and lyrics (I have several big projects involving lyrics-writing I really want to work on).

Better manage computer time - drag myself off Tumblr more in favor of sites where I talk to friends and/or have way to improve myself (through writing and some reading).

Try to exercise once in a while (which would be more than I do now), eat a bit more healthily, and get to a place where I'm healthy and feel good about my body (also known as wanting to try and lose some weight without worrying my parents).

Work on my spiritual life. Way.

...This list looks a lot harder than last year's. Wish me luck!
